Absztrakt (kivonat)
This study aims to analyze the effect of project managers’ experience and competencies on project success in the IT sector. For this purpose, the 78 trainable project manager competencies created by Brill, Bishop and Walker (2006) were used as the independent variables while project success was represented by the framework created by Baccarini (1999) and the elements used were quality, cost, time, stakeholder satisfaction and client satisfaction. For the empirical analysis the survey method was used, and the data collection took place between 25th March – 6th April 2024. The main target groups were project managers, business analysts, CEOs, team leaders and trainers working in the IT sector with a varying degree of experience in directly managing IT projects of various type and scale. The final sample contained 27 responses. After conducting factor and regression analyses the results show that each project success variable is influenced by different factors: Schedule planning and management factor have a significant positive impact on Time; Getting familiar with the closer inner environment of the project turns out to be crucial for Quality; Knowledge of the closer inner circle of the project and the Written communication skills influence Cost. Accountability has a positive impact on Stakeholder satisfaction while the Use of project management methodologies such as process mapping and system design shows a negative effect. Decision-making and negotiation skills have a significant negative impact on the Client satisfaction, while focusing on Change and people management skills and Getting familiar with the closer inner environment of the projects can impact it in a positive way. This study contributes to the current line of research by analyzing multiple competency categories at once and at the same time extends the analysis beyond the traditional project management triangle.
