Abstract

In our essay we would like to highlight the opportunities of the European Union regarding energy policy. We focus on a global, top-down project, the Mediterranean Ring and on a local, bottom-up solution, the Blue Economy in order to decide which fits the European Union‟s three main energy goals: competitiveness, sustainability and security of energy supply better. To elaborate on the two concepts we used the methods of the futures wheels (that helped organizing our thoughts as a way of structured brainstorming) and scenario building. As a result we drew conclusions on the dilemma (global vs. local) and on the topic in general.
