Abstract

Our research aims to answer the question: “What factors influenced countries in their decision-making outcome regarding their Olympics bids, specifically for the 2024 Games?”. We review research literature on the impacts of hosting the Summer Olympic Games. The objective of the research is to inform Olympic holders about the factors that can affect their bidding decision given the current downtrend in the number of bidding countries. We review research literature on multiple impacts of the Olympic including economic, social, environmental and political aspects. By employing qualitative and quantitative methods, including case study methods and comparative analysis, we conclude the further factors that also attributing to the decision-making process are cost concern, incomprehensive evaluation, uncertainties and public opinion. We investigate the bid decisions of Paris (France), Los Angeles (USA), Budapest (Hungary), Rome (Italy), and Hamburg (Germany) within Olympic 2024 and ranking the impacts of each factors. Findings indicate that while economic considerations have the least impact, social factors are considered the most predominant, followed by political factors in shaping bid outcomes.
