Abstract

In my dissertation, I examine the speech style of the female protagonists in the Academy Award-winning movies for the best female lead between 2000 and 2019. I am analyzing its various aspects, with particular reference to their linguistic socialization background. I observe whether the speech style of each character changes in order to achieve their goals or as a result of changes in their living conditions in both their private and public lives. In dialogues in a professional setting, I examine the phenomenon of taboo, the circumstances in which it occurs, how it is treated, and the problems it causes in the lives of characters.
