Outlook on The Gender Quota and Women’s Political Participation: Affirmative Action in Kosovo

Abstract

Kosovo is the focus of this paper, as a relatively young independent nation. Kosovo is a case study, through which the gender quota effect on the role of women participating in the political sphere will be examined. The study aims to analyze the historical perspective of gender roles in the Kosovo – a patriarchal society – the interconnectedness between gender quotas and gender institutions, and try to provide a clear picture of the impact of the reforms relating to gender quality by law amendments and policies, and to also find out whether there is a greater involvement of the women political participation thanks to those reforms. The methodology of the study is based on content analysis of the existing literature, quantitative surveys, and qualitative deep interviews.
