Absztrakt (kivonat)

Social inequality has been a core problem in every type of system, which has existed in the history of civilization, it can be considered that invisible walls have always been present and they have divided different social groups from each other. However, the emergence of gated communities has made these walls visible, and more importantly the process has been hugely provoked by today’s economic and political system. In the thesis I will try to explore how far the problem of social inequality goes with the appearance of gated communities and in what particular sense liberal, moreover neoliberal market economics can be blamed for this. During the review of the literature about gated communities and analyzing interviews, which were conducted in Monterrey, Mexico, I will try to understand what is the economic, political and social background behind the emergence of gated communities, as well as what is happening in the foreground. What are the feelings and motivations of residents, who voluntarily decide to isolate themselves from the city life?
