Absztrakt (kivonat)

The aim of the present study was to examine the impact of intensity of social media use on social media dependence and the impact of social media dependence on the well-being and self-esteem of young adults aged 18 to 34 years. The research questions were as follows: How does the intensity of social media use influence social media dependence? How does social media dependence affect young adults' well-being? How does social media dependence affect young adults' self-esteem? In order to answer the research questions, an anonymous online survey was distributed through social media platforms. The survey consisted of the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, the Social Media Engagement Questionnaire, and the Social Media Disorder Scale. Data were analysed using standard deviation, variance, bivariate correlation tests, linear regression, and contingency tables to show the distribution of the data. For analysis and data entry the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) was used. The results show that the intensity of social media use affects the dependence on social media. Furthermore, the dependence on social media has an impact on young adults' well-being and self-esteem.
