Abstract

This thesis will explore the potential of implementing various forms of counterterrorism to combat potential Jihadism within refugee camps. It will analyze the histories of religious extremism and counterterrorism and provide the base concepts surrounding them as well. It will showcase the aspects required to be addressed in potential implementations of these kinds of initiatives both theoretically and in practice. These include the requirements and methodologies for their operation including ethical standards and debates. It will present a comparative case study of two previously enacted counterterrorism initiatives focused on Jihadism and report of previous programs working within refugee camps. Based upon these, it will introduce a program that would specifically for combatting Jihadism in the setting of a refugee camp.
