Abstract

The thesis is written with the aim of listing the most important factors that are to be taken into consideration during the preparation phases of a Business English language course. The author defines the key points and elements from its own point of view based on its experiences and the questionnaires compiled for teachers and learners in order to find out the preferences of the two groups in terms of the language learning process. In the thesis, after the introduction part, where the most important terms are defined and the related literature is shortly presented, the result of the empirical research is analysed in order to confirm or contradict the author’s hypothesis that concerns the learners’ and teachers’ professional background, the learners’ motivation as well as the form and the methods used to teach Business English. Most of the respondents, who are highly educated professionals with considerable experience of teaching, learning and use of Business English, prefer private lessons or learning in small groups from an experienced teacher and want to develop their skills needed to be successful in their work where the English language is quite often used. According to the answers, the motivation for learning comes from inside, therefore the learners want to take part active at the lessons and prefer the interactive exercises based on real-life situations. Concerning the importance of the physical conditions of the lessons (e.g. room arrangement) the groups cannot be considered as homogenous.
